Running While Pregnant

Today I went for a much needed run.  I've been so stressed these past days that running just helps me feel so good, it makes me feel energized and it's quality time with me.

Now that I'm pregnant I don't over exert myself but keep a moderate pace.  I run anywhere from 4-6 miles.  I'm pretty sure in my last trimester I'll have to lower the mileage because it tends to get a little harder.  As of right now my doctor says to continue to do what I'm doing, so I am.  Running is a passion of mine and I can not imagine 9 months with out it.

It's important for me to stay healthy for me and my baby.  I try to eat as healthy as possible but it is challenging now that I'm preggo.  Mostly it's all in the mind.  Seriously.  Your mind has so much power.  And not everyday I feel like getting out there and running especially since it has been so cold and I hate running in the cold.  But I make myself go.  I feel so gross when I go days and days with out a good run.  Call it addiction or obsession or whatever you may, but I call it my passion.

If you are pregnant and want to run to stay fit make sure to consult with your doctor.

My best tips for running while pregnant
  • Go to the rest room before you go run.  Make sure that bladder is empty.  If you know what time your going to run don't drink as much water around that time.
  • Go at a steady pace and don't over heat yourself.  Listen to your body.  If something hurts, or if you are light headed, or running out of breath, just stop relax and walk.  Take your time.
  • After you go for a run drink plenty of water and make sure to stretch really good.
  • There is a belly band out there for support for women who run.  Not sure what it's called but I know it's out there and want to get it when I start getting bigger.
  • Enjoy your run.  Do it because you love it don't do it because you have to.
There are so many benefits to running and working out while pregnant.  I encourage you to get inspired whether it's running, or yoga, aerobics, brisk walking.  Whatever your level of activity is I know there is something for everyone pregnant or not.

xoxo,
Marilu
