DIY Fall Burlap Wreath

Ahh Fall is officially here.  It is such a beautiful time of the year.  The crisp weather, the beautiful Autumn leaves, and the pumpkin flavored everything brings everyone to a brighter mood.

Running my own business and being a stay at home mom has really allowed me to set my own schedule.   And I made it a priority to get crafty this fall, that I was so inspired to make a DIY fall wreath.  I've never bought a wreath that was pre made because I always felt it was never my style or I felt I could make something even better.

What I love the most about DIY projects is that for one you spend a fraction of the cost making something than going out and buying it.  And when you make something it adds your personal touch, it add personality, and it is made with love and more than likely it will come out so much cuter! :)

Of course I went to pinterest for a little inspiration.  The picture below was what I originally was aiming for.  But it turned out a little different because I did not have the exact same flowers as in the picture.  Keep in mind when you get an idea off of pinterest it may not look exactly the same because flowers come in so many kinds of colors, bundles, etc.

Also I used a larger wire wreath which in hindsight I should have used a smaller wreath because you end up using less fabric, less flowers, less everything.  Next time I know, I'm just glad I'm here giving you all the heads up! :) What is kinda good about the larger wire wreath I chose is that it gives a  really elegant look because it's nice and big and it's also ideal if you have a larger door as well.  It all depends what kind of style you're looking for.  Make it your own.

I'm going to give you all the materials you will need.

1.  Wired Wreath
2.  Flowers
3.  Burlap ( I used about 15 yards = 45 feet) *the smaller the wired wreath the less you will need
4.  wire cutter
5.  floral wire
6.  Brown wired ribbon
7. Craft wire ( I chose twigs with autumn crystals)
8.  Wooden white Initial (optional)

I decorated my wreath in sections.  I started out by tucking the burlap in and over and tying it with the floral wire and then eventually spreading it out so it can look bow like and fluffy. Then I placed a bundle of flowers next to it kinda on top.  This will give that wreath a full look.  At first I was going in a pattern but then I mixed and matched it up.  There is no right or wrong way to decorate your wreath.  All I can tell you is have fun with it.

What worked for me is placing the essentials in place first which was the burlap and the flowers.  Then I went back and added a few punches of off white flowers here and there to bring it all together.

Lastly I added the twig decorative wire and I just placed it all over the wreath to give rustic touches.  I still want to add our last name initial to it.  We'll see what I decide but I love it.  It's the easiest thing to make.  I hope you guys decide to make a wreath this season or any season and hopefully this gives you some inspiration and tips.

Ive decided to do more wreaths for every season and holidays, so stay tuned for that! :)

xoxo,
Marilu
